  1. photo to film
It allows you to create photo slideshows and can be used on both devices
It can be used in the classroom to make presentations
I like this software because of the way it allows you to make presentations. The free versions gives you all the features as the full version. It allows students to be creative and create a slideshow anyway they like. You can also turn your slideshow into a dvd. It has a free version but does not give you full access to support which is a negative.
    Paint
It lets you edit and change phots and is used on windows
It can be used in a classroom to let students be creative with photos they have taken
I like this because it is an alternative from photoshop. It gives a completely free version to use for anyone. It also lets you work on more than one picture at a time. They are constantly doing updates that add in more features. It also allows you to work in multiple languages and gives a lot of storage in the app.
    Handy Backup
It allows you backup your files and can be used on windows
Students can use this to help keep their work from being deleted
I like this because it is another way to save your files. It is very easy to lose your files if something happens to your computer. It is always good to have your files saved in a few places. It also allows you to backup any file you create and in any form you would like. One thing that I don’t like is it is not updated regularly from older versions.
    kaspersky
It is an anti virus protection software that can be used on any device
It can be used in a classroom by protecting the computer students are using
I like this software because it is a very protective software. It will tell students when they are on an unsafe website. It also runs virus scans to make sure nothing is wrong with the computer or to see if any files are corrupted. I really like how they are constantly updating their services to protect computers. It is really beneficial with students because they do not always realize what websites they are going on.

  3. Video Cache View:
This is a software that allows the user to cache different videos to their computer so they can be easily viewable without internet connection. It can be used on both platforms and I think this would be nice in a classroom setting because if the student does not have enough time in class to finish the video assignment, they can just save it to their computer and view it anywhere, there doesn't need to be internet connection. I think this is a nice software to have because it does not take up a lot for place on the computer and it is helpful for completing assignments. It would be much easier to be able to view different videos without the use of internet connection and they are simply saved to the computer.

    Youtube Video Downloader:
This is a software that allows you to download youtube videos to the computer and can be used on all platform except for internet explorer. This would be good to have in a classroom setting because the students can download the videos and save them to the computer which means there will be no more buffering and wasted time. I like this because it is easy to use and by saving the videos, they can be accessed anywhere. A lot of teachers and schools use youtube for multiple subjects and by using this program the students can keep the videos with them to reference at any time.

    Video Call Recorder for Skype:
This is a software that allows you to record audio and video chats on skype and it can be used only on PC because it is based off of windows. I think this would be great to have in a blended learning or homeschooling program because the students would be able to record different lessons or important conversations with the teachers to have to reference. I like the thought of this software because even though the students could take notes on the teacher's lessons, it would be great to keep and study from. The website said that the space is unlimited to what you can record and also the other person does not know they are being recorded because the program runs alongside of skype.

    UltraVNC:
This software is used to be able to access your home PC from almost anywhere and can be used only with PC because the program is Windows based. This would be wonderful in a classroom setting because now is students forget their homework at home or forgot to print it out, they can easily access it from the school computer. I really like the idea of this software because you don't need to worry about forgetting things ever again. You can even go through your emails and so anything as you would at home sitting in front of the actual system. The screen of the home PC shows up on the computer you are sitting at and you can do and access anything from anywhere.

  4. Name: Ubuntu
    Link: http://www.ubuntu.com
    Function: Operating System
    Platform: Linux
Educational Use: Ubuntu can be used to expose students to an alternative to both Windows and OS X. In particular, it can be useful to students who display a high interest in computers and science, as many scientific applications are done on versions of Linux, due to the speed and reliability of Linux computers. Since Ubuntu is often regarded as the user-friendliest distribution of Linux, it would be a great place to start.
Opinion: I have tested out numerous forms of Linux, and I have found that Ubuntu is by far the easiest to use. It is fast, safe, and free. I even installed it on my family’s desktop after Windows failed us one too many times. I personally think that Ubuntu is fantastic to use, and is as simple and elegant as OS X. Since OS X is essentially built on the same kernel, this is not particularly surprising. It is great to show students that PC and Apple are not the only options, and that with Linux nothing is off limits. The entire operating system is customizable, and while that can be intimidating, it can also be wonderful. Ubuntu is the first step towards serious computing, and it is perhaps the best way to teach students about Linux operating systems.
    Name: VirtualBox
    Link: https://www.virtualbox.org
Function: Virtual computer emulation, to allow for the use of multiple operating systems simultaneously
    Platform: PC/Mac/Linux/Solaris
Educational Use: VirtualBox can be used to further student understanding of how computers function at a hardware level, as well as a way to demonstrate the differences between various operating systems and hardware settings. Furthermore, this program can allow for experimentation while quarantining the effects of said experimentation to a very limited section of a drive.
Opinion: I have found VirtualBox to be a great way to evaluate different operating systems, before deciding on which on the install on a system. It is also useful when trying to run a program designed for a drastically different system than what is being used. For example, when I was using Ubuntu as my main OS, I would load Windows XP using VirtualBox to run certain pieces of software that I could only get for Windows. I have found VirtualBox to be incredibly easy to use, and the fact that it is frequently updated is wonderful. In my opinion, VirtualBox is the most reliable and most user friendly way to work with a virtual machine, at least for free.

    1. Name: Octave
      Link: https://www.gnu.org/software/octave/
      Function: Mathematical computation and graphing
      Platform: PC/Mac/Linux
Educational Use: Octave can be used to solve very complicated and high-level math problems, as well as to display the results in an attractive graph. This can be used to enhance a mathematics class, as well as to increase both the level of understanding and problem difficulty in science classes such as physics and engineering.
Opinion: Octave is the open-source equivalent to MATLAB, which is the industry standard for mathematical computations in the scientific community. I have found that Octave is nearly as good as MATLAB, with some limitations regarding the number of functions that are available. As both an engineering and a math student, Octave made my life much easier, by giving me an additional tool to solve problems. For example, it is incredibly simple to find the roots of any polynomial using Octave. I plan to use Octave which applicable with my future students, so that that can be made aware of and become comfortable with one of the most commonly used computer programs by scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.

      Name: Stencyl
      Link: http://www.stencyl.com
      Function: Game creation and modification.
      Platform: PC/Mac/Linux
Educational Use: Computer games are essentially a daily part of life for most students, which many of these students being interested in the design of games, not just playing them. Stencyl is a way to combine both low and high level programming concepts, so that students can understand different types of Boolean logic, as well as how to combine logical statements to get the desired results.
Opinion: Stencyl is a great way to get into game design. The game templates cover most of the common simple web based games. Also, the graphical programming interface is very intuitive. It is relatively simple to drag blocks of code to make a character or object perform a certain task. The preset codes, such as common movements, also make life easier. This program makes it easy for someone to design a rough version of a game, but to really make it perfect concept such as loops and counters must be used. It is this combination of graphical design with text based coding that make Stencyl a fitting introduction to both game design and computer programming.

  5. Inkscape - https://inkscape.org/en/

Inkscape is a free download for Mac and Windows which allows users to draw freely to create graphics using different tools such as drawing and text tools. You can create many different things with the vector design application, such as logos. This can be used across many different areas such as business and marketing to the classroom. I would use this to have older students create a logo for a business they made up. There are endless possibilities with this and I think it can be nicely used as an addition to an assignment or lesson. I think this is a really cool way to allow students to be creative in the classroom.

    VSDC - http://download.cnet.com/VSDC-Free-Video-Editor/3000-13631_4-75764187.html

This is a free video editor available for download on both platforms. You can edit premade videos adding filters, chunking parts together, creating movies, and many more options. I would use this in a classroom setting for a project. I would have students create and edit a video about a given topic. This gives them independence as well as allowing them to think creatively. I really liked this application when I was reading about it and I can see this being put to good use in the classroom.

    Ultra VNC - http://www.uvnc.com

Again, another downloadable tool available the Windows platform, Ultra VNC can allow users to view their computer screen from another computer. You can essentially work on your computer from another computer just like you were sitting in front of it. I think that this can be used in education because students can work on the things they were doing on their school computers at home and vice versa. My opinion of this is that it seems neat, but I have to wonder if it really works like it says it is going too. It does sound like something I would want to give a go in my classroom one day, but definitely have to do more research on it before hand.

    Photo to Film - http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?p2m

This source makes movies out of your images (small clips) and can also burn discs and create transitions between photos. It can be used on Windows and Macs to create photo slideshows and many other neat features available. You can use this in the classroom to allow students to edit their photos into video clips or to create slideshows with videos and photos. This can be burned into a DVD. I really like this application and have seen it used many times at weddings and cheerleading banquets. I think it is really cool and has endless possibilities.
