Do not do this assignment until Wednesday, July 13 as the videos are not due until Tuesday, July 12.
For each of the online presentation videos of your classmates, do the following:
Name the online tool:
Name the student:
Describe what you learned from the video and if you would use this tool in the future (5 to 10 sentences):
Bunkr
ReplyDeleteJamie Niedjaco
It is very similar to powerpoint that lets you put in anything from online media. It can be used on any device you own such as an ipad or computer. You can add in anything from your computer or an online source. It continuously saves your work as you make changes. You can use Bunkr to present anything you can come up with such as when you are selfing a house or making a scrapbook presentation. I would use this in the future for students to make their own projects with.
Haiku
Mario Tombasco
It is much like powerpoint where you can create slideshows to present. There is a full and free version where the free version is limited. There is a way to put in a video and change your background and add in animations. You have the options they give you or you can take things saved on your computer. There are multiple options to choose from when adding in new slides such as charts and bullet points. I would use this in the future as another option as a presentation tool.
Google Slides
Mark Schlegal
Google slides is free and very similar to powerpoint. You can add in new slides with many different formats and themes. You are able to use the options they give you or can use something you have on your computer. You can insert videos as well that come from youtube to put into your presentation. You can share your presentation with anyone you choose and if they can edit it or comment or view it. I would use this in the future as a way for my students to do group projects.
Animoto
Lindsay Najbrt
Animoto allows you to log in multiple ways such as facebook as well. There are a lot of templates to choose from and provides music with that template. However you can change the song to your liking. You can add in pictures from the internet and from your own computer. It allows you to add in a logo and text along with your pictures. It allows you to preview your video before you share and produce the video. I would use this in the future as a student project.
Prezi
Brittany Harris
Prezi has three different options but does allow you to use a free version. You can share your prezi with who ever you choose and they can edit it and view it. There are a lot of templates that you can choose from or create your own. Prezi works differently than powerpoint because of the way it moves around. You can also add onto the already created template. I would use this presentation tool in the future because it gets away from using powerpoint.
Name the online tool: Pear Deck
ReplyDeleteName the student: Ryan Kaslavage
This video was a very concise, informative demonstration about how to use Pear Deck. While the features are very similar to other pieces of presentation software, the detail that stood out to me was the instructions for using a projector. Obviously, you do not want all of your notes and annotations displayed to the classroom. Pear Deck does seem to be a great tool to use, both for in class presentations as well as for synchronous online learning sessions. I would not hesitate to use this tool with my future students. It appears to be incredibly useful, as well as being visually appealing and easy to use.

Bunkr is an alternative to PowerPoint, which is particularly focused on embedding content from social media into a presentation. It was designed to offer features not found in other pieces of presentation software. The creation of a presentation looks like it works very similar to how other presentations are created, but that it not surprising. I like the inclusion of features such as auto-save and the ease with which social media can be added to the presentation. While I do not have much experience with Bunkr, I do like what I see, and if I can find the time to become more comfortable with it I would present it to my students as an alternative to PowerPoint that they are more than welcome to use.
Name the online tool: Google Slides
Name the student: Mark Schlegel
I have used Google Slides numerous times, so that was not very much new information that I learned from this video. Still, I thought that it was a very well done demonstration of the basic and most commonly used features of Google Slides. I particularly liked that Mark included the ease with which Google Slides can be shared, since that is one of my favorite features of the app. I would encourage my students to use Google Slides as their first choice when creating a presentation, especially if they are going to be collaborating with other students. While all of the presentation apps will do the job, I think that Google Slides, which certainly not the flashiest, can be the simplest to use, the easiest to collaborate with, and the one which most closely resembles PowerPoint in both creation and result.

Animoto is a way to quickly create video presentations. I have not use Animoto very much, so it was nice to watch the video to see the different features available and how to use them. Lindsay quickly made a video that looked very professionally done, even it was very short. However, I personally have not been a fan of Animoto for presentations, just because I prefer not to use video in place of the presentation itself. This allows for me to better control the timing while presenting, whereas I believe that using a video would essentially lead to turning it on and waiting for it to end. Still, Animato does produce splendid looking videos quickly, and although I may not use it myself, I would still inform my students about it, and let them decide if they would like to give it a try.
Name the online tool: Prezi
Name the student: Brittany Harris
When I want to make an online presentation that looks showier, I use Prezi, so I am familiar with the web tool. However, I did like the video that Brittany made, and I felt like it concisely showed how to use Prezi, as well as the various options to make a presentation stand out. The presentation that she created looked fantastic, and I appreciated how she pointed out that the path of the Prezi is important. While I like how engaging a Prezi presentation can be, I am slightly concerned that they can too easily be overdone, and becoming distracting from the content. Thus, I will encourage my future students to use Prezi, but I would also warn them not to focus too much on the flow of the presentation, but instead on the content and delivery of their presentation in class.
